Good to know
A blood test offers valuable insight into your health, but it also has limitations. We set out both honestly, so you can make a well-considered choice.
We value honest information. For independent information on the benefits and limitations of health tests, we are glad to refer you to the Dutch RIVM, pros and cons of health tests.
Veelgestelde vragen
Fasting is not strictly required for most markers in this package, but we recommend fasting (8 hours) for a reliable picture, especially for magnesium.
Vitamin D comes mainly from sunlight and fatty fish. B12 is found mainly in meat, fish and dairy. Folic acid is in leafy green vegetables and legumes. Magnesium is in nuts, seeds and green vegetables. Our doctor provides context per marker.
For a baseline measurement, we recommend stopping supplements 1–2 weeks beforehand, especially high-dose vitamins can influence the measurement. For B12 injections, a longer waiting period applies.
We measure serum magnesium (in the blood plasma). For intracellular magnesium (in red blood cells), a separate measurement exists that we do not offer.
A single measurement is sufficient for initial insight. With active supplementation or follow-up, re-measurement after a few months is common.
Through Bloodworks Select you can add markers such as iodine, copper, selenium, vitamin A or vitamin K.
We recommend consulting with a GP or paediatrician for children under 18 years.
Typically within 2 business days of blood draw. Some vitamin tests may take slightly longer.
