Good to know
A blood test offers valuable insight into your health, but it also has limitations. We set out both honestly, so you can make a well-considered choice.
We value honest information. For independent information on the benefits and limitations of health tests, we are glad to refer you to the Dutch RIVM, pros and cons of health tests.
Veelgestelde vragen
Fasting is not required for this package.
CRP reacts more quickly (hours) and is less dependent on age or sex. ESR reacts more slowly (days) but remains valuable for specific conditions. The combination gives a more complete picture.
Elevated CRP and ESR both indicate active inflammation. Our doctor provides context, sometimes temporary (such as after an infection), sometimes a reason for further investigation with your GP.
NSAIDs and corticosteroids can suppress CRP. Please let us know about your medication so we can take this into account.
Intensive physical exercise can temporarily raise CRP and ESR. Avoid extreme exertion for 24-48 hours before the measurement.
A single measurement is sufficient for initial insight. For follow-up or with chronic conditions, periodic measurement may be worthwhile.
Through Bloodworks Select you can add markers such as immunoglobulins, complement, or specific autoantibodies.
Typically within 2 business days of blood draw.
